... You can't categorise all lonely people. People are lonely for a variety of reasons. Compare a lady down the road who's husband died two years ago and her grow up children are leading there own lives with children of their own, she still has a lot of life and a lot of love in her - with a young professional who has no steady partner who has moved cities for a career climb and has not established a circle of like minded friends yet?
So I ask you back.... why the question? and Who says they do?

Who said this other than you? Are you saying a lonely person is selfish and pitiful and abnormal , all at the same time? Selfishness does not equate with pitiful or abnormal.

I don't find lonely people to be like that I just think they need some friends...some people are just too shy for their own good, but I don't pity them or think that they are abnormal... and selfish has nothing to do with lonely....

They find lonely people selfish, pitiful and abnormal because they don't take the time to get acquainted with them. They don't realize there are many extenuating circumstances that direct peoples lives and the fact that a person is somewhat of a recluse may not be of his own choosing. Many of these people who they think are abnormal would welcome a visitor and a friendly chat.

People attribute other people's loneliness to their personalities or choices, ignoring all their social circumstances and outside influences on their behavior. For example, when someone sees a lonely person, it's much easier to say they're selfish and abnormal than to realize they may have had uncaring parents.

I never would consider a lonely person selfish, pitifulor abnormal. The only reason some would think so is because they are so into their own little world.Truth is they just need a friend to confide in that will not judge them.Everyone needs a good shoulder to cry on sometimes.

Because humans are social beings. Those people who think that way enjoy other people's company. They conclude that because they always want to be around people that everyone has to be that way. And being around people is the only way to live. Those people do not truly understand the importance of 'me' time. They don't understand the beauty of silence. They can't be alone and whenever they are alone, they cringe and cry feel sorry for themselves.

Where did you get the idea people think that about lonely people? Lonely is their state or circumstance, nothing to do with their character or mind.

People sometimes avoid those that they think are weak or have weaknesses. This is fairly natural human behaviour. It is because they do not want to confront weaknesses in themselves, or because they feel they do not have sympathy to spare for you.

Still, this is better than those that see someone has a weakness, and take advantage of it.
