Not in the UK.
To qualify to drive a manual car you have to pass the test in a car with a manual gearchange and manual clutch.

No it does not! If you pass your test in an automatic then that is all you are entitled to drive.
Mainly because you have not shown any gear or clutch control to the examiner.
The reverse is true however, passing in a manual makes you qualified to drive an automatic.

Nope. It's the other way round. Learn, and pass the test in a manual car and you can drive an automatic.

No, you need to pass your test in a manual car to be allowed to drive one. If you do this, however, you can also drive an automatic, but it doesn't work the other way round..

In the United States there is no distinction between a manual and automatic car in terms of licensing. If you pass your test - you can drive either.
I've owned both.

In the UK i passed in an auto and could only drive an auto, so i then passed in a manual car, job done. It's best to pass stick and save having to do it again.

u dont mention ur state and judging from the answers it seems to matter, but in Tennessee, no matter what you take the driving test in, you are issued a class D license which allows you to drive either a manual or automatic.
