I would think, if liberals are so bad and cause so much destruction of society which NEOCONS will tell you with a vengance (as witnessed by about a million answers by the NEOCONS on here) that europe and canada (two of the most liberal places on earth) would have both fallen by the wayside and imploded. The truth is, they are all progressive and thriving countries that seem to take care of the citizens that live there and those citizens seem to be very happy with their countries and their government.

Good Question, if you talk to either the English or the Canadians they wonder why the richest country in the world cares so little for its people.

Edit: some of your negative answers, I wonder if they come from low class repuglicans or if they are insurance company lobbiest.

It's interesting today that stats Canada found out from the 2006 census that Canada had the highest rate of population increase of the G8 since 01 census. Most of that came from immigration.

Canada is liberal, a small l liberal which means most canadian liberals are more middle of the road in their attitudes and not extreme.

Sadly our health system is being attacked by the ' conservatives' usually who think because they are wealthy that they can step ahead of the line and go to private clinics. Their argument is they're freeing up the hospitals for the rest of us.

It's also sad to note that in Canada there is a horrendous doctor shortage, partly due to policies from Mr. Mulroney's days in office as well as Mr. Chretien's and then the provinces tinkering.

What scares me is the swing to the religious right usually western or rural basedConservatives and the loss of the" Progressive" Conservatives, like Flora McDonald and Joe Clark, David Crombie etc.

Canada has an ugly habit of being a decade behind the US sometimes politically and doing what was done in the US. We have a conservative federal government at the moment with numerous cabinet ministers from the Harris /Eves provincial government which darn near ruined Ontario during its reign in the mid nineties to the early 21stC.

That scares me to no end as the conservatives aren't really interested in the little guys, the regular folks, just the ones in business or with big business. They come off all friendly and look what we're going to do for the average Canadian but most of the time it only benefits the upper middle class and the very wealthy, the rest of us are struggling economically .

I'm proud of who Canada is but I'm worried about who she is becoming.

Boy you don't keep up with the news. Canada went conservative about a year ago and Europe has had a great number of conservatives for a very long time. It's a typical liberal misconception that they are all liberal.

basically the rest of the "industrialized world"... in other words "the other nations that anyone would want to live in" are pretty liberal... (possible exception being Japan)

while they may not have quite the economy of the US... they are doing TONS better than the vast majority of the rest of the world...

I mean the state with the biggest economy in the US is the most liberal one... California...

relatively... looking at the WORLD AS A WHOLE... all nations included... liberal nations fare FAR better than most other nations... on average...

Define 'thriving'.
High unemployment, lower standard of living, far less personal wealth, low productivity, massive, swollen 'nanny state' beaurocracies, filthy streets and out-of-control homeless and drug addiction problems...
As someone who has actually lived in both Europe and Canada, I can only surmise that you have lived in neither to make such an inaccurate statement.
Liberal societies are aimed at making the non-achiever comfortable in their mediocrity.
Some people 'thrive' on mediocrity.
The US was built on self-reliance, inginuity and perseverance.
Those qualities are what has made America great...and it is the LACK of those qualities that has stifled the progress of both Europe and Canada.

The wealthiest people in the U.S. don't want to share even one dime with anybody else. That's the short answer to why we can't be more like Canada and Europe.

Liberlism is good to a point, but take a close look at the countries you just cited. Canda and England both have tremendous debt, socialized medicine that takes months just for an office visit, and they don't have the civil liberties we have. i know that upset liberals, but the truth always does.
