When being in your character, whether it be a monologue or play, make sure you dont "fake" cry... Make the emotion real. Take the words or the subtext and warp them into fitting your very own past experience. Think of something sad and bottle it up. Make it rip at you before the emotion bursts. Use metal images. Picture the person/situation right infront of you and interpt it so that you understand it. Then cry. Scream. Get it out. Good luck! I hope my advice helped!

You don't need to make yourself cry. You are the actor. It's the character that needs to cry.
You need to step away from the mechanics of your eyes watering and focus on the emotions/circumstances of your character. Focus on the subtext of what's not being said as well as what is being said? How did your character get to this particular moment? You need to remember this during the entire scene.
If you're doing your job, the tears will come because that is what the character would do when feeling those REAL feelings. If you are doing your job and the tears don't come, don't worry. The important thing about acting is being honest and reactive.

Katie C. is the ONLY respondent who makes a shred of sense.
It's amazing how much inexperienced actors think that something like "being able to cry on cue" is what actors do. Believe me, if you apply yourself during rehearsals, and you listen and respond actively and naturally during performances, you'll come up with the right emotional reactions.
Manufacturing phony externalizations of emotional states is exactly what GOOD acting is NOT about.

will you have to actually cry otherwise it is fake.
what makes you cry or atleast gets you choked up? if you are really into the role -you are that person - it should come naturally.
otherwise - You could put something on your eyes that irritates them - like that vaceline minty stuff you put on your chest when you have a cold - vix or something....ah yeah haha.
in a movie they'll just put fake tear drops in your eyes between shots.
good luck

Method acting would teach you to focus on something so drastically depressing that it makes you cry; maybe your father dying or something like that.
The easiest thing: put a slip of strong onion in your hand, and inhale the fumes.

Katie C has the right answer. It is not about using gimmicks, you have to be truly connected to the character and their back story. Check out Uta Hagen's "Respect for Acting", EVERY serious actor should read this book!

Try not to cry for days before. Then practice right before and think of everything wrong that has happened to you in your life.

i heard their are tear drops that you put in your eyes to make you cry. Other than that you either have to hurt yourself or just be a miserable depressed person.
