The flag-waving, only-too-proud-to-serve firm has hightailed it to Dubai.

Does it ever make sense to break all the rules for a corporation? The Founders created this Nation for citizens, individuals, not corporate greed that has no loyalty or citizenship.

No, apparently they are trying to avoid prosecution/investigation of about 2.7 billion in overcharges of American money, and that is in addition to the money they have already gained in their lucrative no bid contracts.

My response to the poster that argued that Halliburton is one of the few companies that could handle the Iraq job is that OK, fine, let them prove that by opening up the contracts process to regular competitive bidding and let other companies have a chance at the jobs, not just companies which are close friends and/or former or current employers of the Bush administration. Also don't have no bid contracts which are basically written by the companies themselves and the dollar amounts rather than a competitive process which drives the price down to a fairer, more reasonable price (since the American taypayer or actually their children and grandchildren will eventually be paying it).

And even if Halliburton is the only company which may be able to do the work does not give them the right or justification to overcharge 2.7 billion dollars to the American taxpayers either.

Halliburton is taking advantage of the situation in the Middle East. They fail to recognize the rather superior business acumen of the oil giants however. After all, the United Emerates is rather small. The U.S. plans to remain in the region for quite some time, and smaller countries DO need protection. Not only that these oil giants are fully aware of the modus operandi of the United States......and so, one hand washes the other..
(and please, they are a huge conglamorate, but there are other smaller companies that deserve a chance also. What gets me is Cheneys influence re the war in Iraq wherein these crooks got no-bid contracts and nothing was done about it. Congress just looked the other way - as usual. And so, we wait and see Halliburton. You can't remain crooks forever. )

I'm so glad you asked...i used to work for brown and root (which became part of haliburton)...which at the time was the 1st or 2nd largest construction company in the world. They built ports and military bases going back to WWII. When the U.S. military neeeds huge logistical/construction help during war time, there are basically no choices...Brown and Root is going to be everybody's first choice...if you had the job to do you'd have chosen them too...because they could do it!!! Now if there was overcharging that doesn't pass an audit then they should have to repay where it makes sense. That is the real world dear, not the leftwing dribble you hear about haliburton being evil...it's the most respected construction firm in the world and it's American....Texans...the fact that they are relocating HQ's to Dubai is just a business decision I am sure.

and here is the real kicker, the reason they moved is so that they can avoid the restrictions that currently exist on doing business with prohibited countries like Iran? they are so American that now they have bilked America out of billions of dollars and are being investigated, and have already paid back our government 8 million for indiscretions in charges, and now they will be able to get out of the investigation and also they won't have to pay taxes to the US either! How American!!

It may be an American company, but why is it taking up roots and moving? How many jobs are going to be lost in our country due to this move? That is one way to look at it. I feel for the people who will be adversely effected by this move.

Let's not forget the "cost plus" part. That's the most important part of these little multibillion dollar contracts.

I DON'T SEE THE BIG DEAL IT'S A GREAT BUSINESS MOVE AND THE STOCK SHOULD RISE. BUY NOW DON'T GET LEFT BEHIND. IF YOU CAN'T BEAT THEM MAKE MONEY WITH THEM. NO CORPORATE TAXES THAT MEANS MILLIONS / BILLIONS IN STOCK DOLLARS. BUSINESS IS BUSINESS IF I HAD THE DEMOCRATIC WITCH HUNTERS SCRUTINIZING MY BUSINESS AND I HAD ALSO THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET OUT OF THE DEMOCRATIC TAX MACHINE I WOULD. IT'S ALL BUSINESS AT THE END OF THE DAY. LIKE ANYTHING ELSE. BUSINESS IS BUSINESS THE BOTTOM LINE IS THE ONLY LINE.

F---ckin' A!

Corporations need to be stripped of a lot of their rights and power. They are NOT human beings. They do NOT deserve the same consideration.
