Parents aren't teaching their children the value of a dollar or hard work. As a society we are spoiling our children not just with money or material things but by providing them instant gratification. When I was growing up my and I wanted something my parents never told me "no". Instead they told me that if I work hard and save my money I can buy it.
I started working for myself when I was ten years old because I wasn't yet legal to work I did odd jobs for friends of my family and by word of mouth my small business venture grew and I was able to buy my first car by myself at the age of sixteen. I know it is because my parents ingrained a strong work ethic in me that I am accomplished today.
Today's youth are now running their households without lifting a finger. In my spare time I help teach a business class at a local high school in my town and you'd be amazed at how many of them don't know how to wash their laundry or are sporting brand name shoes, clothes, cell phones and Gucci bags that they never had to pay for.

maybe we (the parents) make it easy, but its the ads on TV that influence the kids way more than we do, IMO.
You have all have seen ads that say you can earn $5000 in a week just by buying this book, and have you seen the current ads & infomercials with Donald Trump who is in Canada right now teaching people how to "flip" real estate - buy low, renovate and sell high. I watched a program about this, and the profit one family made in 1 month was maybe $5000.

I've noticed that teenagers now don't want to work. If I was the mother of a teenager I would take all their nice clothes away or whatever it is they like and make them get a job to earn it back.

Because their parents have neglected to show them the value of a dollar, and instill a strong work ethic in their children. Kids just don't come by this knowledge via osmosis, it has to be taught by responsible adults who they, themselves understand the value of money, and work ethics.
Children learn by example. Children must be taught how to work, how to save, and how to spend, in a savvy manner early in life.

i hate that, people at school ask for your homework or classwork answers cause they're too lazy to do it themselves even though they have the time. But yet they care enough about their grades to cheat on tests. I hate cheaters!!!! GRRR

Blame the parents or the PC loving "nanny state".
"Reap what you sow" I believe is the expression.
