A breastfed baby probably won't need additional fluids as breast milk adapts to the baby's needs, but a formula fed baby could need some extra water; use cooled boiled water so that it's sterilized.

yah for sure, my boy is 7 weeks old and he's been given water since day one since where I live is so very hot and there is no way I can keep myself well hydrated and him well hydrated through breast milk. Some people will say water isn't needed when you breast feed but when it's hot they do need water and he/she will refuse it if they dont want it. A family friend of mine who is in her 60's is from Scotland and she was told when she had her kids to give them water as well between feeds when they think they are hungry, to teach them thats all they get until a specific time.

Always offer it. We get thirsty between meals when we arn't necessarily hungry but would like a drink, it's the same for babies. My ten month old has had cooled boiled water since birth and has never tasted squash. If she has'nt tasted it, she doesn't no what's she's missing. It also helps with their bowels, so go for it. She might only have a few ml, but that's fine.

Its okay to give them water but make sure its distilled water (Nursery Water) like you by from Walmart or the grocery store or if you have a water purifier attached to your faucet. Regular water has a tendency to irritate the babys' stomach a little.

yes, water can be given anytime. my 3 month old has 6oz of water a day and it's freezing here where i live. it's not like you're taking him outdoors in the cold anyway, so it should be fine to give water whenever.
