Since Nietzsche was an anarchist, and against formal groupings and traditions, the best thing you could do would be to blow off halloween and wear your normal clothes.

Okay, I really really thought you were joking. At least if you're going to pick something hard, you're putting in the forethought. From the pictures, Neitche had a gigantic (think walrus and the carpenter) mustache, and Anime-character hair. As for clothing, he didn't dress all that unusually for his time-period. Topcoats and dress-coats. Try using your local yellowpages (I'd help but I don't know where you live) and looking specifically for "Theatrical Costume Supply", they'll have a much better supply of period pieces for rentals. If your phone book doesn't have that, then call up the biggest theatre in your area, and ask them where they rent their costumes (make sure you explain that it's for yourself, some costume designers will jealously gaurd their sources from each other). As far as getting people to realize that you're Neitzsche, that's going to be tough. Hit up Amazon for acting aids to find a German Dialect cd, and practice saying "God is Dead", and other common quotes attributed to him. Good luck!

The wikipedia article has lots of pictures, at different ages, to give you a general idea:

Hmmm...Nietzsche was pretty odd-looking (HUGE handlebar mustache) and almost crossed eyes. (See the link below). Other than that, just cruise eBay or any stores you can find for vintage men's clothing/costumes from the late 1800's. Most men wore a black "frock coat" over a white shirt, often with a vest, a bow tie and plain, matching pants...nothing fancy. If you can't buy one, get one made, using a design from "Past Patterns". We used to use them for theater productions. I read that Nietzsche liked hanging out in nighgowns, so you could find a men's nightgown (try the Vermont Country Store catalog). A nightcap or "fez" (pillbox-shaped hat) would finish it off.

Or you could just go as an "Uebermensch" (think: Hans und Franz from SNL).

You need to go to the Halloween Überstore for that. Just remember, you have to use a password to get a costume:

You say, "God is dead - Nietzsche"
The salesclerk replies "Nietzsche is dead - God"

He was a philospher.. why would they make a costume for him? You're going to have to be creative.
