Iraq will look like most of the rest of the middle east - a corrupt leadership making tons of money off the oil industry while most of its people suffer in the aftermath of the war. Its Shiite dominated government will have a full diplomatic and military alliance with Iran.

The government will not be as bad as Saddam's, but secret police will continue operating as they do today - torture and disappearances of political enemies will be common. There will be something resembling democratic voting, but practically speaking the majority Shiite bloc will call all the shots and it will evolve into a single-party system.

Non-Muslims will continue to be persecuted. Those Christians (who could freely practice under Saddam) who haven't already fled the country will flee for the religious freedom of Syria.

There will continue to be low-level terrorism from Sunni and Kurdish factions - less so from the Kurds since they'll have plenty of oil money to play with. The Sunnis should behave so long as the oil revenue sharing agreement holds.

The U.S. will have grudgingly good relations with Iraq despite its ties to Iran, which at that point will also have become a U.S. trading partner by necessity.

But U.S. oil companies will be a minority player in the Iraqi oil business based on local preference.

Iraq will be buying most of its weapons from Russia, France, and Iran.

This all assumes that the U.S. pulls out within the next 2 years. If we don't, it will continue to be a total mess, infested with terrorists and dominated by civil war as it is today.

It'll be exactly the same as it is now. We're not doing anything to help them. They're going to continue to blow their own citizens up with suicide bombs & gunfire. It'll turn into Sudan but won't get any sympathy or telethons.
