Are there any risks of taking an over the counter sleeping pill for over a year. Well actually it's half of a sleeping pill, not a whole one, that I take at night, every night. If there are risks of this, what are they and are they likely to happen? I don't take any other medicine. It is diphenhydramine at HCI 25 mg. Thanks

diphenhydramine is so mild that half doses are barely noticable. You should be ok. But some people have addictive personalities and the act of taking the pill becomes a habit. If you're not that way...don't worry

only 1/2?

I doubt it.

you may become 'dependent' on it to some degree (might not be able to get to sleep without it - for a night or two)... but no biggie.

You should really be calling a pharmacist or poison control on this one, or the doctor that prescribed this to you.
