What do you think the problem is when a soldier or 18yr. old male displays intimidation and fear?

The fear being; of another young man or older man,sharing the Gym or showers or barracks; whatever the case may be, who has let it be known that he is gay. The scared soldier or team mate is so afraid or hatefull of the gay guys homosexuality that he threatens violence!! He assumes the gay guy is going to attack him or what?? Does he not realize that "gay" does not mean "rapist" or "molester"? What does sexual preference have to do with ability to soldier??

The "problem" is a lack of education and a lack of exposure to gay men. This soldier's fear is, of course, unjustified based on someone's homosexuality.

Not knowing this soldier's background, my first suspicion is that he was molested as a child or even as a teen, and therefore has a fear of sexual attack. Should this be the case, he should seek help in dealing with any previous experience as well as his homophobia.

They don't understand, don't want to understand. They react the same way as others do that don't like something is different. They are frightened, so they get angry. Hatred is taught and so is fear. We don't grow into adults knowing what to fear or hate until someone tells us. It is very very sad, but very common.

Many, many "straight" men have sexual relations with other men. The problem is they are petrified that other "straight" males will find out about it. Hence, the homophobic attitude. I have seen this happen so often it is almost predictable.
