I am doing a science project for school. We have to create the solar system, but instead of our solar system we can make up our own. Our requirements are to have a sun(main object) and nine or more planets. Some kids in my class our doing sports, movies,or names etc. But I am having a hard time coming up with something unique. We can make up the names, surface type and population for each planet. If you have any greats ideas/themes let me know!! Thanks!!!

Name them after characters in a favorite cartoon (Simpsons, monsters, pokemon,...), movie or TV show. Favorite music stars or songs? Friends and family? Pets. Places in a favorite story? Streets near your house? Disney dwarves? Open a dictionary to a random page and pick the first word you poke with your finger?

How about the screen names of the people who answer your question?

Or if all else fails, catalog them the scientific way and just give them roman numerals after the name of the star (so Earth would be "Sol III" )

The B-52s had a song about Planet Claire. I vote for planet Lem

Use the names of characters from a favorite book or TV show. Or just use something that mythology hasn't used yet. That sounds like a very imaginative project... there are countless possibilities. You could have a theme for your solar system. Pick something with a lot of options. I wish I had a project like that!

if you have to give a good explanation about the solar system calculate down sizes (you can find them at NASA's website or wikipedia).
Lets say.. make the sun the size of 1 meter.
and say.. hey look, related to our sun ...mercury is THIS size and its location in relation to this 1 Meter sun is .. down in the hall.
Venus ... THIS size .. over the street...
Earth ... This size ... down the street
etc.
ending with Neptune somewhere between your next village and nowhere.

This has already being done somewhere in the US, putting the sun into the library .. and all planets in different locations and original scale somewhere within the same city.
that was really interesting .. for pluto .. that poor guy showing needs to use a bicycle for a longer trip out of town .. lol

Why not do a binary star system....? Have two suns, with several worlds going around their center-of-gravity. (like... Luke Skywalker's home world).
