Does anyone have any good books to recommend? The last books I have read were Peter Moore's "from ciaro to cape town", the Life of Pie, Man and Boy, and Memoirs of a Geisha.

Looking for something funny / sad, a book you can relate to and not want to put down...

any ideas?

not quite funny/sad in that order, but anything by Martina Cole is just magic. MAinly about the London gangster scene, drugs, prostitution etc. She really does say it as it is with very few holds barred and most of what I've read from her has, although started of being quite oppressive from a womens point of view early on in the novels, she really does show a very powerful side to the Eastend females. Good stuff.

The best book I have read in a very long time is "The Namesake" by Jhumpa Lahiri. My whole book group fell in love with it. It is the story of a family who immigrates to the United States, and follows one character in particular. I could not put it down. I find myself recommending it all the time.

If you're looking for something funny, you definately can't go wrong with Mellisa Nathan's books...The Nanny, The Waitress and The Learning Curve...she had a few others but they are pretty tricky to find. Absolutely fantastic.

The saddest book I've ever read is Say Goodnight Gracie. It's about how this girl's best friend diesand she's very depressed, it's one of my favorites I actually cried through half of the book! YOU MUST READ Flowers in the Attic! It is so good, you will want to read the rest of the books in the series, they are all very good.

Tess Of The D'Urbervilles. It's tragic but beautifully written. Difficult if you don't find 19th century literature easy to read... Which most people don't, I suppose.

Good though. The Shopoholic series is brilliant too.

Well, Bridge to Terabithia, although the trailer was nothing like it...

Harry Potter. I finished the last one in 2 days. I'm serious!
Chronicles of Narnia. They aren't really funny, but they are sorta sad...
