It's best to bring it up on a Friday and/or when your boss is in a better mood. Mention that you haven't had a review in 5 years. Mention all of the good things about the company and how hard of a worker you are. Tell your boss that you feel that your pay should be up to par with others in the work force who share your title and that the economy has changed within five years. Then ask for a raise. Have a number in mind just in case they ask (which might take some research) but don't mention it. Good luck.

Data supports results - do some research on salary.com or in industry publications to determine what the going rate is for someone in your job, in your area. If you're below the average, let your boss know that you've done some research and that you aren't being compensated at the level that is customary for your job.

Mention your skills and abilities, the fact that you are dependable and go out of your way to ensure things run smoothly. Then see what s/he has to say.

The worst that can happen is you'll hear, "No, sorry, we can't do it right now..." and then you'll have to decide whether to stay or look for a more lucrative position.

Best of luck

Tell your boss that all prices increase, just to make a better living, you need to have better annual review, good luck!

As a manager myself, I appreciate it when an employee is upfron with me when asking for a raise. I generally make them make a case for a raise...say...give me 5 good reasons why you deserve one. I generally know what they'll say, but I want them to justify to me why they feel they are deserving. Most of my staff who have done this get the raise...they are being honest with me, work hard, and feel good about the contribution they make to the success of our workplace. Don't just ask for it...prove you deserve it...good luck to you...
