I am planning to get an elapid of some sort and do have experience with many different hots including rattlers gabbys, cobras and mambas. What kind should i get I don't want a rattlesnake, or a spitter any suggestions are appreciated but don't tell me I am being stupid or that I shouldn't do It because i really don't care if you think I should do it or not.

They are really cool looking, they can be handled, if you know what you are doing and i am studying to become a herpetologist right now and that would helpme become more familiar with elapid behavior

I said I didn't want a rattler since not most ppl would know that rattlers aren't part of the elapidae family and I worked with western diamondbacks, juvenile green mambas and forest cobras at the San Fransisco Zoo. i am 17 right now but will be 18 soon and I am planning to go to college in australia, is that enough info for you.

also I have never owned any hots and I assume owning them is different than extracting venom and breeding. I also fed them but did this with tongs. I had to handle them when extracting venom.

yes I would need a permit and I am not looking for wether or not you believe me because I have nothing to prove and simply wanted to know what kinds of hots are good for people just starting with keeping them.

have you ever considered a devenomized animal, that way their behavior remains the same but you completely take the risk out of it minus the physical puncture wounds if / when bitten. sounds like you have already worked with some of the more difficult ones though...... try a king cobra (ophiophagus hannah) they seem to be some of the more intelligent snakes.....

you want an elapid ? you said you dont want a rattle snake tho ? rattlers are not elapids cobra and mambas are tho so if you have experience with mamabas which are one of the hardest to keep ya dont need to ask what to get on here... what mambas cobra and rattlers have you worked with ? where ya live ? who owned the snakes you worked with. how old are you ? i hope your not just making it up man venomous snakes are nothing to mess with

why would you be milking them ? most zoos dont do that what was the reason to do it.. and how could you work with venomous at 17 what person would let a minor work with hots ? you are in cali last i heard it wasnt legal to keep hots in cali with out a permit. i dont believe a zoo would let a minor work with anything venomous they could be suited if you were bit

I'm not telling you not to get them, but I just want to know why do people get poisonous snakes? I like them they are really cool and most are very pretty but I like to be able to handle snakes and I can't handle a poisonous one. So what is the attraction to them, I'm curious. Good luck with your snakes and make sure your careful.
