Once I got a cell phone number that apparently used to belong to a drug dealer. I got all kinds of strange calls at all hours. I changed the number.

Good luck on the new number. I live in a different town than the deadbeat that used to have my number. Still get creditor calls after 5 years. I usually ask the caller when was the last time they spoke with "madam x," if they are truthful with me i will take the time to explain.

My husband has that problem with his cell phone number. He has had this number for about 3 1/2 years now and he still gets calls for a guy, Jerry or something like that, from strange people all hours of the day. Give it up people, it's not his number anymore!

I've heard horror stories like that. I've had this number for 2 years. 5 or 6 times a day we get phone calls from telemarketers for the same TWO different names (The Louis's and the Dumonts) and it drives me BUGSHIT.
BTW - creditors just assume everyone is lying, it's in the handbook.

I have that problem at work. The extension I got was some creep who owes money to everybody. The worst part is the collections people who call don't believe me when I say he was let go from the job and insist I am Mr Singh. I gave up trying to convinve them and started talking in an indian accent and telling them all to kiss my little brown tushy.

Yes I kept getting phone calls from someone that did not speak English when I would say they had wrong number I guess they did not beleive me. When they kept calling and obviously sounding mad I unplugged the phone changed the number the next day

I worked for a company that sold to law enforcement agencies and it published its phone number on its website with an error and it rang at some lady's house. So after she got called by 50 different police agencies, the FBI, Homeland Security, Corrections, DEA and god knows who else, she got so paranoid she had her number changed!

Yes! When I first got my cell phone I had all these people calling me and leaving me messages in Spanish. One caller was so persistent that I had to enlist a Spanish-speaking coworker to call him and tell him that he had the wrong number.
Even worse, my mom has the exact same name as another woman who lives in our city and has a lot of debt. She's got creditors calling her all the time trying to collect money that she doesn't owe. I think she'd have to change her name to get them to leave her alone.
