After the reform of house of lords............

Reforming the Lords will tie up the Commons as once again, they will have teeth. Might have been better to left them alone. Legislation will take longer and social problems that need addressing may take longer to be dealt with.

The question arises could a PM be a member of the Lords, in a newly reformed house? Anarchy, kaos, McDonald's, KFC.

Republic of England, who knows. But if the monarchy is ever done away with, I'm sure the cost of government will go up.

In the UK there is one royal family; in the US there's about four, counting the current and ex-presidents all of whom receive a lot of money in pensions, security and other government perks.

And, who pays for all those presidential libraries? Granted, it's been said that the current President Bush's library will contain only one book.

I think that eventually without reforming the Lords the future of Great Britain looks numbered anyway,The Scots and Welsh are making good use of their Pariaments and assemblies and look as though they want to go it alone. As for Northern Ireland that too looks promising and feel that one day that this will become its own state. All this is being supported by the fact that these countries could make a strong headway into the E.U in their own rights. The only way that England could be a republic I guess may be made out of its hands by the other nationalities in the U.K who choose to go it alone.

Reform of the House of Lords only removes hereditary peers, not the Royal Family, and how likely is it that the public will want to banish the Queen and her family? Anyway, if England was a republic, we'd have to endure Tony Blair or someone similar as head of state and head of government. The Royal Family is what makes this unique, otherwise we'd be like anywhere else. God save the Queen.

I think the reforms of the HOL will lead to some form of democracy to Wales, Scotland and Ireland but to be honest the landed gentry have already consolidated their position. Some form of land reform and distribution of 'old' wealth is essential for true democracy.

As for 'England' - there hasn't been a country called England for a very long time and there probably won't ever be - rather a mishmash of urban democratic 'zones' whilst the Celtic fringes grow and grow with the freedom allowed them to make decisions on their own affairs within EU.

I guess England is just going to become a nation of discontented 'subjects' cursing all and sundry for their lack of identity which they never really had anyway. Right wing politics and clones of Maggie will come and haunt you - that's on a good day. You'll probably be governed in your new-found urban 'assemblies' by radical UKIp plonkers and BNP affiliates.. with the odd toff thrown in for good measure...

Time for the Celtic countries to start putting up some restrictions on migration from England and see how you lot like it. xxx

Sorry. No future,if it depend on USA.Soon it will become another State of USA.Future of Britain depends on economic reconstruction, becoming part of ECM and accepting Euro. While it may have to reconcile with USA it has to become competitive in international markets compared to Japan,China and of late India.
