Considering how hetero's have royally ******-up marriage with a 50% divorce rate, and continually remarry as if its a contest .. should there be a moratorium on hetero marriage?

In your level-headed response, do not use religion or "because thats how its always been" as excuses. Reproduction has nothing to do marriage. Its time to put your thinking-caps on ...

1) A lot of Divorce lawyers would be out of a job.

2) Ditto for private investigators, they make a lot of money off infidelity.

3) There would be marked decrease in shows like Jerry Springer. Same for Dr. Phil-like shows.

4) The entertainment tabloids would lose their entire wedding/divorce sections and would have to make up even more "news" than they do now. And we couldn't have got any amusement from Anna Nicole Smith.

5) Think of the drama at the hospital when they can't conveniently write down the husband as the newborn's father (regardless of who the father really is).

6) Because that's how it's always been. Remember how they used to stone adulterers/tresses back in the days (back in the centuries), we should still do that. Because if something presumably worked in the past, it has to work in the present.

7) And speaking of stoning, the Bible must say so somewhere. The Bible, despite being written by humans, is always right and is always interpreted correctly by ignorant homophobes.

I'm sorry I haven't put up a good defense, but I've tried my best =)

I think there should be no discrimination when it comes to marriage NO MATTER WHAT! It is a personal choice, just as getting divorced, or not getting married at all is. Marriage should be a public sign of commitment between 2 people in love. I believe it can be a beautiful thing when done properly, but sadly many people do not understand the wonder of it anymore, they believe that it s something to just be experimented with, and if it doesnt work out, oh well, no big deal.... Just because some people decide they cant get along, or dont bother to work differences out does not mean that marriage itself is a bad thing.

Brilliant and given the answer by java jive, a creature of low quality and zero integrity, you have your answer.

I always find it funny that they will hold up Britney's 55 hr marriage as sacred but two men who have been together 30 years are considered to be unworthy.

On another note, to our friend Java, sweets should be aware that marriage as you know has only existed for approx. 1300 years and was created by the church. Secondly, in ancient civilizations, gay bonds or marriages were in fact quite common and were seen no more or less valid as any other union. That you and other like you are incapable of grasping this shows the lack of intellect and more importantly the dishonesty of your position.

I can't think of SEVEN, but one is that it keeps SOME of the child molesters from doing as much damage, as long as they're being "monitored" by a jealous spouse (yeah, I know that's a weak reason). It might keep the rape rate down, too, but not by much, since that's a crime of violence, not passion.

I believe in mandatory sterilization, so the average moronic American can't breed, adding to the overburdened environment and abusing more children with lousy, brutal parenting! One should have to take a psych evaluation test and at least 2 yrs. of parenting courses before having the sterilization reversed.

Generally I agree (though I'm married) that ALL marriage should be discouraged. If you banned it, most people would just do it to rebel (like drinking during prohibition).

I'm not sure I can think of seven reasons to ban it but I think you make an extremely valid point. Maybe we should rally together to ban Hetero marriage the way they gang up on us. It won't work but maybe it will make them think.

Dash, I like your reversal. I guess some folks are just irony and sarcasm impaired. Or just plain bigoted.

I think marriage should be open to all, and we should all fight against the current situation of state-sponsored marriage rights discrimination.

The Constitution says that we were all created equal. This means we should all get the same marriage rights when we choose to marry our unrelated consensual partner.

Freedom of association (including romantic), freedom of religion (people should have the right to live their religious beliefs), love, perhaps the people involved can be in the 50 percent that does make it work, the freedom to choose a caretaker (for a spouse will end up being so if you are sick or disabled), help in raising children, and individual happiness.

All of which I believe should also apply to same-sex couples, one of which I am in.
