HDMI delivers both video and audio in one cable. It's also digital.

Component cables are split into 5 cables, red, blue, and green for video, and yellow and white for audio. Since it's split into 3 colors, the picture tends to be more vivid.

S-Video is analog, but it carries 2 signals, so pictures are better than composite cables.

You need to look at your TV to decide whether or not you can use HDMI. Some HD TV have DVI, HDMI, component, S-Video, VGA, and composite inputs, while others have a combination of those. If you only have the red, green, blue inputs, then you need component cables. Search around and see if you have HDMI input on your TV. Be sure to get 1.3 HDMI cables.

If you look in the black PS3 manual about p. 4 or so you should see a diagram showing what the different plugs do and what output they give. My LCD 42" is has the standard yellow, red, white outputs with an S-Video outlet next to them. On the back is 3 panels for HD. the green, blue, red, yellow, white. It is too old for 1080p so maxium is 1080i but so far I haven't seen that great of a difference if not any.

S-video is unable to transmit high def signals. For high definition, you need either component, HDMI, or DVI cables. Component is the cheapest. The difference between those and the superior/more expensive HDMI cables isn't that great though.

svideo isnt as good as component...... alot of older tvs have svideo only.... which isnt all that great but the component is a step higher in clarity and brings out the colors a lil more..
