Probably a strange question....

I have a lot of grime on my black stove top that I can't seem to get off. I've tried soaking it and wiping away, repeating the steops, and still, no real head way. I know WD-40 is great for removing grease, grime, adhesives, etc, but is it safe to also use on a gas stove top? The can label doesn't quite say if it's safe, only states to keep THE CAN away from heat, sparks, pilot lights, etc.

Anyone know if this is safe? And if not, can you make a suggestion as to what to use? I've tried and tried, am selling my home and preparing for showing, and certainly don't want a dirty stove top to stand in my way of closing.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT:

I'm not quite sure what the top of my stove is made of. It's a black top, gas range, made by Frigidaire.

Hi there,
I don't think it's a strange question at all.
I use WD-40 to clean my stainless steel gas cook top all of the time. I even use it to clean the grease build up on top of the wall cupboards.

There is even a WD-40 fan club were members share there ideas on ways to use WD-40 and a list of 2000 uses for WD-40.

Just make sure when you are cleaning there is no split water around. When the two mix it goes a milky colour.

I would suggest going to your local store and buying some cleaner for ceramic glass top stoves. Then I would put it on the areas, let it sit but not long enough for it to dry. When you go to wipe it up, scrub the grime with a scrubber that's safe for teflon pans, so it won't scratch the paint. Wipe it with a paper towl and repeat, if needed. That should take care of it. I have never tried this with a black appliance though, so you may want to test it first in an unconspicous spot. Like the rim under the tray's. I would think it would be fine though, because I know they make black ceramic top stoves! I wouldn't neccessarily use WD- 40, except as a last resort. The residue may lead to an even harder clean up job. Good Luck!

I have a white gas stove that also shoes alot of grime. I've used oven cleaner with great results. It doesn't take off the color. Also try the mr. clean magic eraser. Unbelievable how something so cheap can clean so well! It'll take everything off your stove without alot of work, & won't scratch the surface.

I can't help you with WD-40. What I do is spray the whole top of the stove with easy off oven cleaner, cover it with a trashbag(plastic) and wipe it down in the morning.

I just saw an article about WD 40 and all the uses it has. I was amazed. Cleaning the sove top was on the list. If you aren't sure maybe on the can or something there is a number that you can call, but it was on the list.
