To elaborate on everyone else's vague answers:
The website for the application is here:
http://gapinc.com/storejobs
The stores do NOT take "paper" applications anymore. If you go into the store you and ask for an app. you will be given a card with that web address on it. On that site you can fill out the app and answer the series of questions. If you qualify, your information will be sent to the managers of the stores in the district in which you are applying.
As for what they are looking for: someone outgoing, a hard worker, and hours that fit the store's availability. Here are some thoughts about what I think about Old Navy:
Seriously this is the most fun job I've ever had, and I am not using sarcasm. The people are awesome, my store feels like a family, and we are people of all ages. I'm 24 and there are a lot of college part-timers, as well as a handful of high schoolers, and some older people as well. The mix of people is great, even the managers are great (hopefully you'll have some good ones at your store) The environment is so fun - music playing (fairly decent most of the time, lol), colorful, friendly coworkers, and of course interesting customers. I started out working at Old Navy 2-1/2 years ago after I graduated from college. I worked full-time for a year and then got a job with my degree, but I couldnt bear to give up working at "the nave", so I still work there also. I was a fan of the store before I started working there, but you certainly don't have to be.
In case you don't about the positions involved, you can be hired to work on one or both "sides" of the store - Customer Service or Logistics. Logistics depends on your availability if you are able to work the hours that your store processes shipment. Check with your local store to see when that is. Some are early morning, and some evening. Logistics includes shipment, markdowns, signage, merchandising, etc. Customer Service involves being a "sales associate" - being on the register, a fitting room attendant, or on the salesfloor recovering an area. Both positions are tons of fun (I am on both "sides")... sometimes people have a preference for one or the other, but it depends on what you like to do. If you prefer to be one-on-one with customers, then customer service is for you. But Logistics does not mean that you're hiding in the back room all day - actually, the truck is processed from the door to the salesfloor, hence the name of the process Door To Floor and the majority of time is spent on the salesfloor, you're just not there during the busiest time of day. Of course the discounts are nice too (Gap and Banana Republic also). Old Navy rocks, and you will like it!!! Message me if you have any questions, and hopefully I'll be able to say Welcome to the Old Navy team. :-)

They are looking for someone who had customer service experience or enjoy working with people if this is your first job. Just go to your nearest Old Navy and apply. Good luck.

Pretty much walk in and apply, but other than your employee discount, don't expect much from this loser company. Their managers are really poorly trained, your hours will be less than what you need to get by (let alone get benefits), and there are few opportunities to advance. Great merchandise, though. So smile, march in and get that discount (ahh - I mean, job).

at the store usually there are signs up saying now hiring.
ive seen them before in old navy.
theyll usually have little information cards, and forms near the sign.
if not, ask for one.
im not sure what age they hire, but you do have to go to store.
i do not know if they hire over their website.
either way, youll probably have to go in for an interview.
hope this helps. :)

Ask for an application and fill it out.
Usually, they want a people person, someone that can easily talk to customers and be able to get trained to learn the register and such.
