It sounds like you need to determine why the ground is so damp all year.

In our subdivision there are some houses that actually have springs on the rear of their property. They have had to install french drains on the side of their properties to assist in draining into the storm sewers this allows their grass to grow..

Investigate what grass will tolerate the most dampness.

Sadly, I share your problem. The choice is either install french drains to help remove the water or use shrubs and plants that enjoy wet soil. Good luck---

Yeaaahh... build a drainage system!

If you're like me, and live next to a flood plane, don't kill yourself worrying about it.

There's some cool ground covers out there like moss and creeping jenny that do better in wet soils.

Depends on where you live too...
