I want to wear boxers, Mum says I need to wear briefs or pants for support, when im older I can wear boxers :(... Most of my friends wear boxers, is she right?

David, not to beat a dead horse, you've got some pretty good answers so far. Just want to point a couple things out. First of all, boxers are really nothing more than a style fad. If you think about it, since you don't have any support of any kind under them, they are essentially like not having any undewear on anyway. In that case, what's the use of wearing any? Now when it comes to briefs, since you are caught in the mom trap, you can try to find a happy medium. You don't give an age, but I assume you're old enough to know that things down there need a little support now and again. Next time you're at the store, take a look at the briefs with a defined pouch in front, they're still briefs, but they make a huge difference in comfort. If she wants you to be happy with the same old hanes (the worst brand in my opinion) then just go without. It's an issue that she has her reasons about. Sooner or later she will realize that it is your body and you need to find what is comfortable for you. But I do agree, boxers just for the sake of style, not worth it. Try commando, you'll give up underwear altogether. And you'd be surprised how common it is, more guys do it than you realize.

Briefs are more practical when you exercise. Why don't you tell your mum that you gonna wear briefs underneath the boxers? Then you will have a good support and you can still look like your friends.

It's a matter of personal choice: Boxers, briefs, bikini, jockstrap or commando. If you've never heard the term commando, it's going completely without underwear.
The tighter under garments keep things in check, be that in a sports game or a hot date. Boxers shouldn't be a problem or even commando style unless you wear short pants which might give you an unexpected exhibition of the family jewels.
If you can afford to buy your own underwear, there shouldn't be a problem at all, well, unless maybe, you're thinking of leather boxers.

How old are you? If your're ten or more, I think
you are in the driver's seat on this one. I'm not
sure that your mother is in a position to know
one way or another.
If you want to wear boxers, I would tell her just
that. Personally, I never liked them. Many, many
other people do. It's just a personal preference.
There comes a time when your mother needs
to bow out and this is one of those times. You
are not a little boy anymore.

hi david, u need briefs if you are doing allot of exercise or things like that but for a normal day if you want to wear boxers then that's Ur choice

Well, I think you have to choose whatever makes you feel more comfortable, personally I prefer boxers, I don't like to feel like my testicles are going to disintegrate any minute, but if you like to keep them together briefs would be better. Some doctors say that if you're not circumcised it's better to wear boxers, that's just because it's better to have ventilation to keep everything healthier but it's up to you bud.

well, boxers are ok. it'll help get air into tht area. however, as u get older, ur testicles will begin to hang more and when ur a much older adult, it might be better to have more support so they won't get in the way and won't get irritated from rubbing on ur leg(s). so, she's right, but u have to decide what u wanna wear.

Its been proven that briefs, or other constricting underwear can reduce sperm production, as the testes work best at lower temperatures. I'm not sure that support is necessary for guys in the same way it is for girls, its mostly a matter of what feels comfortable.
