down to us. the world didnt just fall apart on its own. it doesnt work that way. it needed the help of millions of people to keep their lamp on to long. i think some of it is preventable. other stuff not so much. like cars, they are kinda nessarry to get to point A to point B in less then 4 weeks. BUT something can be stoped like turning things off when their not in use. so its us who is causing the global warming

Have you ever watched the Earth from a satellite? It glows in the dark. Where does all that heat go?
Ninety nine plus percent of the energy ever created by man has been in the last hundred years. When matter is turned into energy, where does that energy go?
Heat, for example, only bleeds off because there are conductors for it to transfer to. Given the near vacuum of space, where do you expect the heat to be conducted?
Our atmosphere is an enclosed environment, and we are heating it up faster than the energy can bleed off into space. Think of it as a carboy full of yeast. As long as the yeast has food, water and heat it is happy, and spends its time eating, excreting and reproducing.
The only problem for the yeast is that eventually its closed environment becomes filled with boiling excrement, so it drowns in its own end product. That appear to be what we are doing with our planet.
Every unnecessary energy source, be it an ipod, an suv or a traffic light in the middle of nowhere, generates heat and light. Every unneeded cellphone and microwave oven lays a burden on the biosphere that it might not be able to handle.
If this is accurate, then Thomas Stearns Eliot was right; the world will not end with a bang, but a whimper, and a self indulgent one at that.
