This trick only works with 27 or less cards (it is ideal with 27 cards).

Try it by taking 9 cards (numbered 1-9) from each of three colors (red, yellow, blue) from an UNO deck and watching what happens with the colors when you do this -- stack nine reds on top of nine blues on top of nine yellows and do the trick as follows:

Choose a card (lets say the blue 3) and put the 27 cards into three rows, one in each row repeated nine times:

R1-R2-R3
R4-R5-R6
R7-R8-R9
B1-B2-B3
B4-B5-B6
B7-B8-B9
Y1-Y2-Y3
Y4-Y5-Y6
Y7-Y8-Y9

then, your card is in the right row (B3) row. Put that row on top and the other two below it and repeat the process.

R3-R6-R9
B3-B6-B9
Y3-Y6-Y9
R1-R4-R7
B1-B4-B7
Y1-Y4-Y7
R2-R5-R8
B2-B5-B8
Y2-Y5-Y8

Now, your card is in the left row (B3). put that row on top and the other two below it and repeat the process one more time.

R3-B3-Y3
R1-B1-Y1
R2-B2-Y2
R6-B6-Y6
R4-B4-Y4
R5-B5-Y5
R9-B9-Y9
R7-B7-Y7
R8-B8-Y8

Now, when you say which row it's in, it will have automatically been arranged by a series of automatic sorting. It will either be the top card in the top three cards of the row (if you always put the chosen row on top), the middle card in the middle three cards of the row (if you always put the chosen row in the middle), or the bottom card in the bottom three cards of the row (if you always put the chosen row on the bottom).

If you use the 1-9 of three colors of an UNO deck and play around with it a bit, you will see other patterns emerging. Try it all three ways (putting the row your card is in always on top of the other two rows, always in the middle of the two other rows, or always on the bottom of the other two rows) -- VERY IMPORTANT:

YOU CAN NOT CHANGE THE ORDER OF THE CARDS IN THE ROW THAT CONTAINS THE PERSON'S CARD!!

This will hopelessly mix their card into the deck.

I hope this was helpful.

Three columns of seven cards each are placed on the table the player picks his card and remembers it (or writes it down and hides it). The dealer then asks which column the players card is in. Once identified that column is placed between the other two in the deck. The cards are then dealt in three card rows until the 3 seven card columns are restored the question is asked again and the same process repeated. Then you ask one last time what column the card is in. When they tell you it is always the middle card in that column. I like to end the trick by remembering their card handing them the deck and telling them to shuffle, cut, or anything they want except removing cards. When they are finished I make sure the bottom card is NOT theirs then i flip each card over one at a time into a pile on the table making sure they see their card flipped into the face up pile. After a few more flips for good measure I hold up the top card of the deck and ask "how much will you bet the next card I flip over is your card. They always say some ridiculous number because you already flipped their card then when the bet is et you put the card you are holding back on the deck, grab their card from the face up pile and flip it over. Then they get mad and say how did you do that and try to get out of the bet. The trick actually just uses math to work.

It is a number thing. When you lay out the cards, they ask which row your card is in. when they pick them up, that row will always be put in the middle of the other two rows. Also notice how they lay them out, this also makes a difference on where your card ends up. At first, they lay them out in each row, then they lay them out across to form three columns. It is not hard, you just have to follow the same pattern each time and there card will always end up as the middle card of which ever row they say when all is done..

it will always be the middle card in the last column you pick. try it yourself.

You say which column it is in. Then he puts those cards in the middle. Then he deals them out and you card is either the 8th-14th card --- then you tell him which column again and he does it again
after doing it one more time, it is the 4th card in one of the columns
once you tell him which column it is in he now knows your card
