for the most part they are good cars. i only like the gsx version though. it is the only eclipse model that is AWD. the other versions are front wheel drive( RS, GS, GST). the gst and the gsx are turbocharged and come with 210hp. the others are not turbo. the car is good for customization. i drove my cousin's RS and it was fast for a FWD. i would buy one if you wanted to drive/ race alittle... overall they are good cars.

yeah they look good and even perform good.
but personally the build quality is not that good as a honda.
i'd go for a honda prelude of that age cause they are better on build quality , reliability , performance and resale value.
the looks of the eclipse are great i went for the looks and bought a 98 eclipse which was in great condition as told by a tire-kingdom mechanic.
but the same day the car broke down on the road and had to get the battery and alternator replaced, then the struts didn't perform well and the mech said i had to replace the struts, the interiors would make bad noises and the ride quality was bad.
i sold it and bought a honda accord coupe and its an amazing vehicle no troubles at all

That era is good if it is taken care of. Buying a used turbo is generally a bad idea as they are delicate. Same thing for a manual transmission (find out how the clutch and flywheel were replaced).
Best bet would be an RS or GS, rebuild the engine and then go to town customizing. Its kind of old to be modding without a rebuild anyway.

Most people seem to like them very well, especially after their customizations.
I am not sure about you age; make sure you check the insurance BEFORE you purchase a Mitsu.
