Kerry put it quite nicely.
But to add something on a slightly different note:
These people are actually missing out of one of the greatest gifts life has to offer - uncertainty. People think knowing everything and being able to predict what happens next would be the best thing ever. But these individuals have clearly stopped short; they saw something "great" and ran with it. However, if they would thought a little longer perhaps they would have realized the beauty in not knowing. The beauty of having something else to learn, to discover. Because when you already know everything...what's left in life?

There is nothing wrong with being in control all the time. That would be the ideal state to be in for us all. That would be the self autonomous spontaneity we all need to be original and free to use our will power to the most. But to control others is a little more complicated because we all do in some way or other. To control others because one is insecure and can not tolerate the ambiguous behavior of others is not being free and autonomous. One can only control others effectively by and through the autonomous state of spontaneity where it is the same for all of us and we feel comfortable with it.

Unfortunately, there are people out there who can't control what is going on in their own lives, they think they will be able to have better luck with someone else's life. It's like the old saying goes, "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones"
which means, if you are having problems don't try to solve someone elses'. Thank you and may GOD bless.

People with control issues have the need to control everything around them, even if its a persons life.

Because they are Control Freaks, I have a couple of friends like that... One of my friends even went to the gym and asked how many times I went in 1 month, when she didn't like the answer she called and gave me the "healthy" lifestyle speech... Just because she is a gym freak does not mean I want to be one as well... Geesh
I think it has to do alot with the personality, but yeah I TOTALLY understand what you are saying. Soo annoying!

Because it reduces the suffering in ones life.... we compare our "lot" in life with that of others. With this, we can be judge, jury and all knowing. But what happens, is we are seeing ourselves in others, and rather than take responsibility for our own behavior, we deflect it by being "controlling"... if we are in another persons life, we don't need to examine our own life. Rather pathetic... It is insecurity.. in it's most basic form.

Most of the time those people don't feel in control of thier own lives. So they try to control the lives of others to make themselves feel better about not having control of thiers.

Straight-up insecurity. Controlling someone else makes people (jerks) think they are special.

Control brings a sense of order and predictability to their lives. Disorganization and unpredictability bring anxiety and stress. While controlling behavior can be annoying to an outsider, it is usually done out of a need to bring stability to their life.

To limit uncertainty.. because that is what everyone fears the most. Not knowing what will happen or not being able to control it.
