Born a commoner Imhotep served four Pharaohs.Imhotep rose through the ranks of officials in the temples due to his natural talents and dedication to the ideals of the nation.
He is best known as the adviser, physician and high priest of Ptah of Pharaoh Djoser 2630-2611BC.
Imhotep was also an accomplished poet and architect.
One of his greatest achievements was the one that stands as a living monument to his genius and faith in eternity,The Step Pyramid and mortuary complex of Djoser.
Although is was built as the tomb of Pharaoh Djoser, it later became a cult centre for the worship of Imhotep and the spiritual ideals of the ancient Egyptian people.
Imhoteps didactic texts became well known in later eras,as were his medical writings.
The Greeks honored him and during the Roman period the Emperors Tiberius and Claudius inscribed his praises on the walls of their Egyptian temples.

Imhotep is the first architect and physician known by name in written history.Imhotep is credited as being the founder of Egyptian medicine, and as author of the Edwin Smith papyrus, detailing cures, ailments and anatomical observations. The Papyrus was probably written around 1700 BC but may go back to texts written around 1000 years earlier.
Pharaoh was the ancient Egyptian name for the office of kingship. The term began as a reference to the king's palace, but the meaning loosened over the course of Egyptian history until in the late period it was interchangeable with the Egyptian word for king

Do you guys know that some extremists view ancient egyptian civilization as evil and a sacrilege. They call the ancient egyptians "kafara" or infidels. Once while I was visiting the Karnak temple, Luxor, I overheard a group of bearded men and veiled women telling their kids, that this work is the work of the Koffar.
