I live in germany now but still have my subscription to SKY UK with a standing order - I have the 4 mix package - knowledge /style & Culture / Music & Variety....my sky box - an old 'Pace' has died on me ....I was thinking of buying a Pace DS440N Sky Box Satellite Receiver Digibox which is apparently excellent for weak signal areas. OR is there a better option?
Q 1 - If i purchase this receiver box can i simply pop my sky viewing card into the new machine and will it work.....?
( my dish and card are ok as the engineer told me so and its def the receiver thats dead )
Q 2 - Im paying 21 pounds a month for my channels and i am happy with this selection - are there any ways to get these channels cheaper / free ? Its just a pain having this standing order attached to a UK adress when im in germany now...

I am assuming that you have already received the signals from the Astra satellite on your old box before it died. If so then you could get a new box but your card will have to be updated to suit your new box. I had this problem in England, it entailed me phoning Sky, giving the relevant details obtained from the setup menu on the box and then they activated the card. I don't know if this will work in Germany but cannot see why it shouldn't. I would suggest that you check with Sky before buying the new box to be safe. Good luck

That box should work as a direct replacement for your box. You will be able to get certain channels with your existing card, but the premium channels won't work until you contact $ky and ask them to update your card to work with the new box. You'll have to tell them the serial no. of the box, but that's available from the on screen menu.
DON'T tell them you're living in Germany now as I believe that's a breach of the terms & conditions of subscription to $ky. If they find that out, they'll block you. At least, that's how it used to be unless they've recently laxed their T's & C's.
Regarding cheaper reception of certain channels, unless some local cable company provides the channels you want at a lower price, then you won't get it. $ky's encryption is virtually unbreakable so nobody is able to sell dodgy cards!
