Yes you can. I have a friend who is still producing milk 4 years after her last baby was born. Her doctors don't know why.

Yes it is possible for a woman to produce milk if she is not pregnant. Hormones drive the production of breast milk. Prolactin, a hormone created by the pituitary gland, makes breast milk. If you stimulate the breast enough to increase prolactin levels you will get milk.
Females most frequently begin producing milk when they are pregnant because they have increased prolactin levels during pregnancy. However the milk secretion does not begin until after birth when the baby starts to breast-feed. Women who adopt babies are capable of breast-feeding if they repeatedly nurse their infant or use a heavy-duty breast pump. The nerve endings in the nipples when stimulated in these ways, signal the pituitary gland to increase prolactin, which can lead to milk production. In these cases however, it is rare that the adoptive mother will produce enough milk for the baby and will have to supplement it with formula.
If a female is producing milk and not pregnant or attempting nursing, then the build up of prolactin is being caused by some other condition that is affecting the pituitary gland. In these cases, there is no exact age when this can occur. It may be wise to get yourself checked out by a physician if you are not pregnant and producing breast milk. There are other hormone imbalances that could cause this and it is best to see a doctor who can check for these problems.

hello there. You can produce milk after you have had a baby, I did for several years after but I have not heard of anyone producing before having a baby. Go and have a chat with your doctor as it could be something else. good luck x x

You can produce milk for a while after nursing has stopped. But if its been a long while you may have other problems going on . Check with your doctor. Some times your thyroid can make you produce milk when not nursing if its messed up..

You can, but it will take some work. I know people who breastfed adopted babies. I would go to Le Leche League meetings and get help from them. You will have to pump a lot and there are certain herbs that help produce milk. Mother's Milk tea by Traditional Medicinals is good. Kroger carries it or a health food store. Drink very regular & with herbs don't expect quick results, but stick with it. Alfalfa also increases milk supply.

I don't know how the fact that you and your boyfriend are trying to have a baby (which is an absurd statement in itself) has anything to do with the question of whether or not women produce milk when they aren't pregnant. If there is a discharge coming from your nipple consult your doctor because it can be a sign of cancer.

If you have never been pregnant, and are not taking hormones then no. You should talk to your doctor if your breasts are leaking or producing milk and you are not pregnant. It can mean a lot of different things and it is best to check.
If you are taking hormones to help increase fertility, check with your doc, you may be taking so many that your body thinks its already pregnant.

If you have had a baby you can produce milk but I have never heard of someone producing milk if they were not pregnant. I do not think it is possible.

apparently yes, wet nurses used to feed other peoples babies in years gone by. milk is not produced until you've had the baby for about 3-4 days.
