Open Network Connections Control Panel
Right Click on Local Area Connection (or any wireless connection you have)
Choose Repair

You must be administrator to do. A normal restart will do the same thing.

Now - let me say this - if you got this message in a popup window, DO NOT CLICK ON IT>>>>!!!! If you sent this message from your laptop, your IP address is fine. Chances are that you have been infected, and clicking on the popup will only infect you more.

If this is the case, download and install Superantispyware from http://www.superantispyware.com and clean your computer. If you have an antivirus program, scan your disk. If you dont, get Avast from http://www.avast.com - both programs are free for personal use.

Feel free to email with more questions or post additional details.

Reset your router, call your internet service provider. There should be no problem with your computer. If you have a router that stays on 24 hrs a day, sometimes you need to refresh the ip address by turning off and on the router. If that does not work call your internet provider.

IPCONFIG under the command line
Or:
Go to Network Place. Right mouse click on the NIC card, and click on REPAIR, this will also run a series of commands that will get your DHCP server to get you a renewed IP Adress.
Easiest thing might be to just Reboot the PC, make sure you have a good Cable connection to the internet and it will auto renew, unless you do not have a connection to the internet

I do not know about XP or Vista, but in Windows98 there is an application called winipconfig.exe or ipconfig.exe. Call this program up, at the bottom are buttons that say RENEW IP.
