I never thought of Dashboard Confessional, Death Cab For Cutie or Taking Back Sunday as Emo. Death Cab for Cutie is really weird, and a lot of chicks like them. I picked up one Ep of theirs, but they have like, 30 CDs out on some Indie label. They don't scream though, well perhaps they do now but when I was listening to them they didn't. Music is really, really good, but they're some chick band though. I guess the lyrical content is Emo, if you look at it that way.
Hawthorne Heights and The Cure; The Cure was like Emo back when no-one knew what Emo would be like 10 years from then. Emo is supposed to be like, post-punk; though I'm not sure how; I always felt that Hardcore was post-punk, and if Emo is that, it sort of makes it look bad because they're always b* about some girl that did them foul, or doing some girl foul, or whatever. Not as political as I'd like it to be if I do listen to it it's for the melodic-pop aspect of it.

To me Dashboard Confessional(when it was just chris carabba and a guitar) Bright Eyes, Death Cab For Cutie and Brand New are Emo.The rest of the bands I consider more pop/punk with emo elements.Minor Threat is a real emo band they were harder and were "emo-core".Also bands like Superchunk,The Promise Ring,Texas Is The Reason,Rites of Spring, and Sunny Day Real Estate

"emo" is determind by the lyrics of the songs
some of those bands are infact
"emo"
however, alot of them are not at all
fall out boy is NOT
from first to last is on of my favorite bands and i have to admit, they are somewhat of an "emo" band
hawthorne heights deffinitly is
dashboard confessional is pretty much
academy is.. and story of the year, somewhat, but not so much.
the used kinda
taking back sunday kinda
i listen to all of these bands pretty much
most of them are really amazing
so, weather or not a band is "emo" depends on your deffenision of the word. a lot of people call bands emo just because they scream. hence the word "screamo". if you listen to the words of the songs, they can make you angry, sad, mad and many other emotions all at once. THAT is an "emo" band.
although, using "cut my wrists and black my eyes" WAS a little too emo for hawthorne heights.
:]
