Can extended exposure to rain damage the paint?? curious

Extended exposure to sun can damage the paint - that's why cars are worth more if they're kept in a garage. And depending on where you live and what kind of crap may make its way into your rain, I suppose it could be harmful as well. So can the salt from the roads in the winter.

Quality Control is one good reason.
In a perfect world all paint jobs would be perfect but different things may alter the paint job and shortly (within a few years), it starts to peal and fade.
I would be more afraid of rain causing rust than to cause significant damage to paint.

Some people don't realize how important washing and waxing is to protect your car's finish. Old paint can become oxidized... but that can be prevented by keeping a coat of wax on it every few months. Also, paint can fade if your car stays outside all the time.

I live near the Beach and all the cars around this area rust faster. The paint jobs take murder when we have a Hurricane and you have to leave your vehicle out-side. If you even drive to the beach your wind-shield will be cruddy when you get ready to come home. It's in our air here. They use to tell us not to get silver cars either because the paint jobs didn't last as long. I believe now they have really improved on that.

Hi. Some cars were poorly prepped and painted resulting in primer showing through after only a few years. One manufacturer was fixing this for free.

sun for sure...when you go get your car washed don't use the one with the brushes..at least for two years. my paint job looks great after three years .... Grand Marquis LS.

i polish my car @ least every six months 7 my car looks way better than cars of the same year

the environment has a great deal to do with it. some people take better care of their cars than others.
