Most people don't. This is a very, very rare occurence, which is why when it happens in UK it is big, big news.
Because it is such an infrequent happening, it is impossible to generalise about those who would do such a thing - are they mad or evil?

you could ask both questions separately, too. why do people steal children and then why do people kill children? personally, I think anyone who harms a child should be tortured to death

many different reason, but regardless they are screwed up in the head.
Some do it for sexual gratification, some do it because they "wanted" a child then it didn't work out for them when the kid resisted.
Some do it for revenge, some are just sadistic.
The typical reason a child is abducted by a stranger and murdered, is pedophilia. They rape or molest the child, then rather it is out of guilt, or fear of being caught they murder the child.

I guess it would really depend on the person doing so.
Some probably do it out of hatred or sadism. Some do it for profit. Some do it as part of child molestation. Some do it because they're mentally deranged.... many different possibilities.

Because they have no shame, morals or character. I suppose there are those who will use their own childhood as an excuse for doing this but the fact is you have a choice to do this or not. I don't want to hear excuses.

some people are just sick and need help proberly just a way to live a life in prison rather then living homeless

an interesting observation is that nearly every time these same people were abused as kids.. stop the abuse, and stop the cycle.... i know of about 30 to 40 families still hiding sexual abuse in the family.... it needs to be exposed......

not sure mental instability. maybe they wish someone would kill them. children are weak just like them , they should all die..
