What are the steps to get off academic probation?

It's not easy.

First off, you need to meet with your academic adviser.

Second, you need to get very good grades. Depending on how low your GPA was that caused you to go onto probation, it's going to affect your cumulative GPA. You might want to consider re-taking some of the classes that you got low scores in to replace the old grade with the new.

I was going to say that you should meet with your advisor and choose your classes carefully but I don't think that's what you are asking.

First, set realistic goals so that you are leaving enough time for studying. Make sure you meet the prerequistes before you sign up for classes and attend them reguarly. Get all the homework done and make sure you understand them before exams. In theory success in college is real simple as long as you follow these steps.

But if it was that easy, people would not go on academic probation. I'd say the easiest way is to go sit up in the front of class because that's where all the smart and motivated students sit. Go to class a little early and make conversation with them and try to learn their good studying habits. The best thing to do is to join their study group. You may feel like you are dragging them down in the beginning but that will motivate you to study harder. After a while, you will become a contributor and will have something to give back.

That depends on your school's policy. Generally, it means getting your cumulative GPA above a certain level. You may have to meet with an academic advisor or counselor a certain amount of times, attend time management programs, or fulfill other such requirements.

Consider writing out your schedule and formalizing a study plan so that you make sure you've set enough time to study. Even if you don't have to meet with your advisor, consider doing it anyway -- it can only help. Work with them to determine what GPA you need to get this semester in order to get off probation. Finally, find out what happens if you don't get off probation by the end of the semester.

Good luck!
