How thoughtful of you.
I support servers with generous tips because they often are trying to support families and put themselves through school, and I appreciate their hard work.
Would you rather someone be on welfare? I wouldn't.

Umm, I don't know where you live but in Massachusetts waitresses make 2.63 an hour. And you are right it doesn't require a college education, but it does require excellent customer service skills and the ability to keep cool in a high paced environment. And on top of that we have to put up with idiots like you who don't know a bit about appreciation. If I were you, I would never eat at the same place twice after not tipping, cause they don't forget a face, and if you have you probably got a little extra in your meal...
By the way... I have a culinary degree, I could be a chef in a 5 star place but the flexibility isn't in that job, and my kids are more important, so I waitress to pay the bills, it doesn't mean I nor any other server is an idiot or uneducated, most people I work with are working their way through school. So maybe it is you that needs to get an education.

You certainly don't appreciate things in life not to distinguish between a fast food order taker then a server/waiter at a restaurant. You like to sit and talk while someone brings your food at the table? Bring coffee to you when you're out of it? Not having to get up for anything, relax and enjoy dinner with your wife or friends? A profession means nothing when locking common sense, initiative and have stupidity for your best skill. You don't tip when you dine out?? Did you know many servers get taxed on tips whether they get them or not? Yeah! That's right. They pay taxes on their hours worked and they also get taxed on tips. How? Well, I'm not exactly sure which formula they use, but owners add up all earnings and ratio it between all their servers and each server gets a porcentage taxed at the end of the year. You just sound like a selfish, jealous person who thinks is better then others and can't accept that the best high-pay jobs have to do with good, quality service which is required in almost every type of job then with a diploma hunged up in a wall.

Until you know what it is like to take care of sometimes 30 to 40 people at once, do not sit on your cushy little computer chair, on your cushy little a** and make rude comments about how easy it is, and how it takes no education!!! It is very difficult, and takes strong organizational skills to keep everyone happy at once, and anticipate their needs. There is nothing wrong with working an honest living, doing something you are quite good at and make alot of money doing. You, however, would go broke because you have zero people skills. I have been a server for many years you little creep and not for lack of education, or ability to work elsewhere, but simply because a servers schedule allows me to work while my children are in school, and my husband is at work! I do it because although my husbands income gives us a worry free lifestyle, my income has financed several vacations a year, along with alot of extra lavish emenities. (do I need to define that word for you or did you get it?) No one can prevent you from showing your own ignorance by not tipping when you eat out, but I bet you'd think differently if it were one of your parents who did it, and their tips put you through a decent school (which you seem to need)! I'm not a person who wishes misfortune on anyone, and you are no exception. I do however wish that someday you are forced to support yourself and a family by being a server, only then will your tune change and you will humble yourself to those you have just attempted to insult!

You obviously do not eat out often. I have been a server for several years and have put two sons through college and law school. It takes excellent customer service skills, and also organizational skills to be a server. Servers deserve way more money than they are paid, plus they have to put up with jerks like you who are non-tippers and I'm sure that you are also a pain to wait on. Before you put us down, try being a server yourself....you will find that you don't have any skills and you wouldn't make a cent, besides, I doubt that you could even get a job at McDonalds. Stick to asking stupid questions on your computer. You are a JERK.

servers get more taken out of thier paychecks for taxes thats y they are paid more. and most live off of the thier tips because thier paychecks are like 40 dollars a week. so its people like you that make the server complain about not making money. i cant believe you wouldnt leave a tip. a tip is like a thankyou so much for serving on my hand and foot while a sit here and just eat food. i would understand if you had the worst server ever but i dont see that happening all the time when you go out.

1st you are a SOB for not tipping.
Second, I don't know why they want to make the full minimum wage, the law guarantees them that no matter what. Most servers that dont suck do make pretty decent tip money, depending on where they work and if YOU come in or not.
But please don't liken them to people who work at McDs. A good server is a skilled person, but I would say only about 5% of the total populations of servers qualifies.

Example: Server had table tonight who lingered four hours just to visit and left the server a meager $3.00. At the very least, she should have made $40.00 to $50.00. Guests should consider the amount of time they took up at a server's table. Servers only make between $2.13 and $3.85 depending on the state they work in. They count on tips to make up the difference. They have to pay the rent, buy food, buy diapers just like every one else. I have worked for the same restaurant for four years and no server has made $200 for one night's work. And they remember the cheapskates like you.

Why DON'T they have the right to a full minimum wage? Two of my kids are in college and both work at "nicer" restaurants. They take pride in their work and recognize the better they take care of their diners.... the better they will be tipped.
Did you realize that servers must "tip out"? That means they must share part of their tips with the busboy, the host/hostess, the bartender, the Expo runner (assistant that helps when things are super busy). Both say they average 18-20% of their total sales.
I must agree... if tipping seems unreasonable to you.. then you should probably stick to fast food restaurants. People in food service work hard and are usually at the bottom of the earning scale. If I couldn't afford to tip... then I wouldn't go out to eat. In America.... tipping is expected. It's assumed to be part of their wages (they are even TAXED upon estimated tips). In Europe, tipping is not done... however the serving staff is paid accordingly. Check it out!

You say, "why do you think you have the right to a full minimum wage...?" Who is "you"? Most servers get paid 1/2 minimum wage and they're fine with it because tips (from nice people unlike yourself) more than make up for it.
Most servers (including myself) are proud of the hard work we put in to bring home good money. I appreciate good service. You must appreciate spit in your food...unless you never go to the same place twice. hehehe :-)
