I think most don't start out that way, but the system they work in forces them to make questionable choices
Once they start it just gets easier each time, until they can't tell the difference of right and wrong

Power and money corrupt.
The entire political system has an undercurrent of corruption that honestly keeps it running. It's only been since the media went power hungry as well that this kind of stuff is cropping up in the public news regularly.
Every single politician that goes into the system clean comes out corrupt. I've seen it happen repeatedly to very good people.
And it sucks.
Plus, it takes a certain kind of person to get into office, and those kinds of people are the ones that will stop at nothing to get that power.

Most people in politics are honest people who genuinely want to work to improve the way we all live. If you have a barrel of wine and add a spoonful of ****, no you have a barrel of ****. But if you add a spoonful of wine to a barrel of ****, you still have a barrel of ****. It just seems that all politicians are crooks, liars, thieves, and cheaters.

Because it is a dog eat dog world in politics. You have to try and make everybody like you to get elected, so you'll sway your views and pretty much do whatever you can to gain the favor of the voting public, including lying and cheating. As for stealing, you have to pay for your campaign somehow, plus who doesn't want more money?

Because they are human, no one is perfect, and because it's easy to perceive them all as crooks, liars, stealers and cheaters.

They're not. They just grab the headlines like all criminals and negative reporting does.
They are NOT the majority in politics just as majority of people are not criminals.

bacause most people would rather hear a person tell a pretty lie instead of an ugly truth, and then complain about how nothing is right and nothing changes
