From my experience working in restaurants, I would have to say yes. A couple bucks or more is sufficient, depending on the size of the order. For example, if you leave with 10 bags, tip more than 2 dollars.
Often times it's what happens behind the scenes that deserves a tip. Usually, a carryout person rings or sends in your order just like a waiter/waitress. And many times a carryout person is solely responsible for boxing or packaging all of your food--not to mention, supplying your condiments, sauces, napkins, silverware, etc.
Check your order for accuracy. If it's not right, don't tip. If he/she does a great job, tip a little extra.

No, that is the best part of ordering out. But it would be nice to leave something for those who go out of there way to assist you, for instance I called in an order while I was driving and had them try to help me remember the menu so I could order and they were super nice about it and I left a really good tip!

I disagree with many people here. I work at a restaurant as a server and when we aren't waiting on tables we wait on people who come in to order carryouts. We take the order, sometimes serve them a drink while they wait, make sure they have all of the condiments and what-not...I think that deserves a-buck or two. Don't you?
If you go in, pick it up, and leave then a tip wouldn't be required.

I look at it this way, someone had to make sure my food was all the way I ordered it, package it up, make sure I had napkins, ketchup, or duck sauce and my fortune cookies. I don't tip 20-30% like I do when I dine in at a restaurant but it isn't going to break my bank to leave 2-3 bucks, and it might make someone elses day a little brighter. Pay it forward buddy... Karma comes back to ya, so you may as well be good.

No way. You should tip some one who serves you. If you go to the restaraunt, you order the food and you drive home with it, where is the service there. Congratulations you took my order and cooked the food. Whooptidoo.

Like any other situation, depends on the service. If the service when ordering and pick up is terrific, then yes, I tip. But, if the opposite occurs, then no way...

it really all depends on the type of resturant. some include a tip when you order a take out order. others expect it and others don't. i know the mexican resturants in my area will charge you $0.50 -$ 1.00 extra for take out which includes their tip. just use your judgement.

It depends on the place...usually no... but at Cold Stone Creamery (ice cream) I do... they make it in front of you and I'm sure their little arms are tired by the end of the night!! Plus if you tip them, they sing a song!!

No, I never do. I don't think you should have to leave a tip at a buffet either.
