IN some states you need a license to own one...but they are about 150-200,

Cost aside, chinchillas are not great pets. Cute, yes but they are nocturnal, they do not "bond" well to humans and they require dust bathes to keep their coat from getting too oily. Most pet stores lack that last bit of info about dust bathes and do not carry the required lava dust that they seriously need. Maybe you should consider getting a nice rat as a pet instead?

Way to much for the quality you get. They range from $130 - $200 here depending on color.
A breeder is your best bet. They can sell for $50 and up.
