Things like the tops of sippee cups, and re-useable storage containers and their lids. Also plastic juice glasses get turned upside down and full of rinse water. How do I avoid things like that?

There are net bags that you can purchase to place these type of items into. Then you place the bag down into the dishwashers top rack.

Get a basket for a dishwasher you get them in the baby department at toys r us. I also use q-tips to clean the straws get the hospital kind at medical supply stores. The long ones with the cotton on one end.

If you can, put something big and heavy over it. Make sure its big enough to get washed itself. Also, if you can, put stuff in the utensil holder. I have seen plastic containers to put stuff in, but they take up a lot of room in the washer.

I try to squeeze them between glass and ceramic dishes. That way they stay put and the fragile stuff is shielded. Does not work all the time, but helps...

wedge it between the other light objects if you have a lot at one time or wedge them with heavier items

When you put a big pot in, tuck things inside it. This doesn't usually happen to me, I don't really know what else to do.
