Why is what Bush talked about doing so much worse than this?

The Justice Department is full of long term bureaucrats with the only political appointments those of the US Attorney (not deputy AUSAs) and those appointments belong to the President. If he has people in there who have decided to go in a different direction than he has the right to ask for their resignations. Because they have no legal recourse, they squawk to the press who report the story as though this is something different than other Presidents. The American Media is an institution that is more biased than Pravda with the difference they try to set values and convince people that because they reported it, well than dammit it must be important. This question shows a reference that Janet Reno did the same thing in 1993. Stop being a barking dog for politicians and the media. If the presss reports its there is a good chance its not true, even if its something you want to hear.

I don't think the president (or Al Gonzales) firing US attorneys is a big deal. Yes, Bill Clinton did it in old school Mafia style... he got rid of all 93 of them. It was his prerogative, even if one scratches his head as to why.
