I have washed my husbands very dirty hats in the washing machine on the gentle cycle for many years. I then take them out to air dry. I have never had a problem with the bill or other shape of the hats. Some of his hats have been washed 20 times or so and still look great.

I certainly have a white Colts ballcap this is rather expensive to me as i'm a very real fan of the gang for the reason that they got here to Indiana. The bill became grimy as did the interior band. I prespotted it with a huge-unfold laundry detergent and form of scrubbed it with a toothbrush to relax the dirt, then it went in the washer via itself employing the gentle cycle. (if the dirt would not come out the 1st time repeat presptting and washing till sparkling) DONOT DRY IN DRYER. Reform the form of the hat after washing and enable air dry preferablly on a type equivalent on your head. I used a coffee can,LOL. Mine dryed only nice and appeared style new. After drying, reshape the bill of the hat and you're good to circulate!

My son wears those all the time. You can buy a hat Holder at Walmart for a couple of bucks and you just slip your hat into it, it will hold the shape of the hat from folding or bending and throw it in the washer and dryer. Use Cold water on it only. Its easy and it works.

They have hat forms that the hat fits onto and holds it's shape while washing, that's how I wash my hubbies hats and then just attach it to a hanger and let it air dry. Hope I could help.

Wash it by hand and use liquid starch in the water then form it over the bottom of a gallon glass jar(the one that has the wide mouth lid, like taverns have pickled eggs in). Let air dry and will be good as new.

Do you have a dishwasher? Find a bowl thst you don't care for that fits under the hat ,so it doesn't lose it's form.spray the hat with soap,or stain remover(bleach for colors) and you are good to go.....
Hat wearing for 38yrs...
and yes,I still have hair...LOL
