With increasingly international composition of teams I was just wondering what language they communicate in on the pitch (with each other but also international managers, etc...). Are there generic terms, do they rely on hand gestures? I mean if you get excited on the pitch, which is bound to happen, wouldn't you go back to your mother tongue? And how do you team bond when no-one speaks the same language?

This is what is great about football, it unites people. Communication between coaches and players is done through translators at practices and meetings. But on the pitch, as players get to know each other, they start to learn each other's cultures, basic words, and gestures. These players spend about 8hrs each day training (learning about each other) Basic gestures and emotions are universal, and I THINK scoring a goal is an experience every man can relate to.... it takes us back to our days as kids......

It seems players have a general understanding of the main words and such of the game. They also use a lot of hand gestures and stuff like that when they don't have a lot of time to really talk and explain during a match.

The number and types of pats on the butts. Just kidding of course, since I don't really know the answer. That is the only hand gesture that makes sense to me. Ha!

Morse code, or signal flags.

Seriously, there are a lot of generic terms, And you hurry up and learn the basics of the language of the country you are playing in.
