Its not just a question of how much ram you need but also what sort of graphics are you running.
You will need at least 1gb of ram and if you have intel on board graphics you must have the intel 950gma as if you haven't it will not run aeros part of vista. This is crrently the only media accelarator intel make that supprts vista premium.
I recently bought a new laptop which will run vista premium and just deciding whether to get that or office 2007 which is my other free choice. If I decide to get vista it will not be installed until such time all the glitches are sorted and know first that all my other hardware will work.
Hope this helps

To just be able to run windows vitsa, 512 mb of RAM is required, but your pc will be kind of slow and programs wont be able to run together at the same time, and processing speed will be much more. The recommended RAM is 1 Gb.
If you have 512 mb of RAM I say install windows vista basic not premuim, if you can go up to 1 Gb then enjoy premuim edition :)

Don't bother, Vista is slow on even the latest hardware. Stick with XP or buy a Mac.

Vistas sweet spot really is at 2GB. Less and you see a difference, any more and you see a negligible improvement.
