now rephrase the question correctly, how come college basketball is not popular in the area...NCAA div 1 basketball titleists have not resided in the bay area for a long time, Stanford and cal have successful sport programs , its just that the mens basketball teams have not been great recently...that and if you go just for sports and not scholastics you generally go to schools that have big programs for that particular sport and/or weak academic standards...Stanford is not a school for basket weavers or mike vick style unintelligent athletes...
