In the short story, The Bet, the two main characters make a bet and one of them has to stay in an isolated room for fifteen years, with absolutely no outside contact. He can have anything he desires delievered to him (with the exception of a computer, phone, or anything else that would grant him contact with the world). It would be delivered to him by being slipped through a door slot in order to avoid contact. If he wins, he gets a lot of money. Could you do it if you were in his position? Why or why not?

I could not do it. I think most people would suffer some sort of mental illness. Prisoners who have been held in isolation develop a variety of mental problems after about 6 months. Try researching the super max prisons and you may get some insight in to this. Should make a good story as your character slips into insanity !
