Magnet designed to go on engine oil filters or transmission fluid filters which supposedly greatly improves the removal of contaminates from oils/fluids.

Yes they do work… more or less.
If the contamination is ferrous (contains iron) it can certainly help to reduce the volume in the fluid or oil.
But if the contamination is other, eg. aluminum, brass, fabric, asbestos, plastic, paraffin, etc, they will have no effect.
Bottom line, they can't hurt, but they aren't worth $25.00 either.

"Snake oil", buddy. Snake oil.
As the ASE tech said, only if all that "dirt" is actually ferrous (i.e. magnetic). And most oil pans and such are ALREADY magnetic (ask your mechanic!).
And most of the contaminant is from combustion, NOT metal shavings / particles. Combustion byproducts would not be magnetic!
