About 2 and a bit years ago, I was playing football and received a challenge from 'over the top' right onto the top of my foot. It hurt a bit at first on the top of my foot and my big toe, and there was some swelling, and it was very painful to walk on. I sought out medical advice, and they just said it was tissue injury. However, now, I have a clicking in my big toe (a region where a stud from the challenge hit) either between my metatarsal and first cunieform or phalange and metatarsal.
What is causing the clicking?

It hurts sometimes, normally after physical exercise and when it is cold.
However, the pain does not seem to be in the same region in the clicking, but further up the foot when I move my toe, but also in the joint where the clicking is present I can pain sometimes

It'll be air trapped in between the joints - happens to loads of people including myself. My thumbs constantly lock into the "Fonzy" position and I need to click them, normally in unison, to unlock! Don't worry about it unless its actually painful, then you should maybe head back to the Docs.

Death Watch beetle?

Probably there was a bit more to the injury than first thought and perhaps some damage was done to the toe joint which is now not a smooth as it should be hence the clicking.

Have you got pain? or is it just annoying.

If it's troublesome why not try a sports injury clinic you might get more attention there than at your busy GP who probably won't really be any the wiser.

Arthritis. Simple as that. Bone rubbing against bone, caused by trauma. Of course, I cheated a bit and asked my best friend's mother (sort of my "adopted mommy") who is an RN, and is extremely accurate in diagnosing things, but I ask her medical advice on just about everything, as she has been doing it longer than I have been alive (and I'm 28!).

But that's it, a little bit of arthritis. I have some of the same issues, they act up from time to time, weather dependant sometimes. Sometimes it just aches and throbs, other times, just clicks with no pain...mine is in my knee though, from after I dislocated it on a trampoline once.

Hope I could be of some help, or rather, my RN "Mommy," I should say. :-)
