Not so much a book, but a very short untitled semi-autobiographical novel written by S. Baldrick, this is it here:

"Once upon a time, there was a lovely little sausage called `Baldrick', and it lived happily ever after."

Forrest Gump--If I had read the book first, I'd have never seen the movie. And I loved the movie.
