The best the I have ever read was called "Wizard's First Rule"
by Terry Goodkind. The man is an amazing author that dives deep into this world of wizards and monsters. Once you get into the book, you just cannot take of hands off the book.

"The House of Sixty Fathers" by Meindert DeJong
Tien Pao is all alone in enemy territoy. Only a few days before, his family had escaped from the Japanese army, fleeing downriver by boat. Then came the terrible rainstorm. Tien Pao was fast asleep in the little sampan when the boat broke loose from its moorings and drifted right back to the Japanese soldiers. With only his lucky pig for company, Tien Pao must begin a long and dangerous journey in search of his home and family.
I also like the legendary stories from Homer's "The Odyssey", a wondrous and adventurous tale.

The best book ever is the one you read cover to cover. The one you become sad over when you finish it and start reading it again. The one you wish you could live in. The one that makes you show raw emotion.
When you find that book, you'll know.

That's a hard one. I liked Deception Point by Dan Brown, also The Romance of Archaeology. Now I'm reading The New Historical Whodunit's edited by Mike Ashley, it's pretty good so far. And of course The Holy Bible.

This is a tough one. 1984 is pretty close to the top, and the Old Testament of the Bible is exciting, but I'll have to go with The Cat in the Hat.
